Hyenas’ PvP TR Guide

Trickster Rogue

Updated for Module 3

Hybrid Damage & Survivability Build
NOT a glass cannon build.

I’ve noticed that more and more TRs are leaning towards defensive builds and/or perma-stealth builds in PvP currently. I want to share my build that I’ve been using for awhile to maybe inspire some more TRs to go an offensive route for PvP while still retaining survivability.

In premades: This build is used for roaming and contesting on point 2. This is NOT a point-holding build.

Essence of Aggression
Don’t be shy- If you’re an avid PvPer, go sign up for EoA! We have loads of players willing to help you improve.

  • Profound Scoundrel Armor is the best armor set for TRs hands-down due to the armor penetration. Armor Pen is an important stat for TRs, especially after the tenacity patch.
  • I have a heavy emphasis on Armor Penetration and Regeneration. I have ArPen from Profound Scoundrel and Daggers of the Dread Legion. The armor penetration allows me to have extremely high DPS in PvP- I hit hard. I have 1.7k Regen from Seal rings and Artifacts. Leveling up the artifacts is very worth it for the regen.
  • I also have a balance of other skills. I have a nice amount of recovery, defense, and deflect. I have a decent amount of power and crit also, and a Perfect Vorpal. I prefer Vorpal over Bilethorn, which many TRs use nowadays.
  • The Sigil of the Devoted is amazing. The AP gain is extremely helpful. I keep it as an alternate artifact for the primary use.

My usual PvP slots:
Sneak Attack
Tenacious Concealment

Duelist’s Flurry
Cloud of Steel

Shadow Strike
Lashing Blade or Path of the Blades
Impossible to Catch

Shocking Execution or Whirlwind of Blades

Sneak Attack I love running faster in stealth. I like to use the combo of sneak attack and tenacious concealment.
Tenacious Concealment Very useful when holding points against multiple opponents or fighting someone who has a DoT effect on you. I always have this slotted.
Skillful Infiltrator Good passive. Can’t go wrong with extra run speed, deflect chance, and crit chance.

Cloud of Steel Knives! Use to kill opponents with low HP or to severely damage squishy opponents.
Sly Flourish Don’t use- required point only.
Duelist’s Flurry Main damaging skill for TRs. Learn your timing for this, and your PvP will become significantly better. Practice on the dummies in the Trade of Blades. Work on hitting this from stealth- use the first two attacks without hitting the opponent then unleash the flurry on them. This will lessen the chance of them dodging before the flurry, which any smart opponent should do if they see you using this. Using Duelist’s and ITC is also a good strategy against GWFs and GFs, so you can hit the flurry without being proned.

Dazing Strike I use this sometimes in PvE for DPS.
Deft Strike The parkour skill! Deft to your companion or Bait and Switch dummy for some fun past invisible walls. If someone is ranging you from above in PvP (and you have time to wait for a cooldown) you can give them a nice surprise. Not maxed because I don’t use it for damage.
Lashing Blade Use against GWFs and DCs. Can deal out huge damage. Hit lashing from stealth for 15-25k crits- be sure they don’t dodge. A good trick is to use shadow strike from stealth which applies a short stun and immediately lashing for a guaranteed hit.
Bait and Switch I don’t use this skill- I have 1 slot filled so I can deft to it and parkour, and sometimes for fun to do an annoying perma-rotation in PvP.
Blitz I use this sometimes in PvE for DPS.
Impossible to Catch This is my favorite skill. Use this against everything: as soon as a CW hits a control effect skill on you, when they use a daily, against a GWF (use ITC initially against a GWF to avoid the knockdowns then kite when they’re in Unstoppable) and a GF (use ITC then Duelist’s Flurry to say bye-bye to their guard meter) so they can’t prone you, against another TR who uses Lashing Blade, to avoid smoke bombs, to get out of DC chains, to avoid being thrown off of a point… there are countless uses for ITC.
Path of the Blade Use this for a main damaging skill against CWs, TRs, and GFs.
Impact Shot No longer viable after the nerf, unless you want to mess around with the short stuns.
Shadow Strike I always use shadow strike. TRs can easily kill two, maybe three opponents if they can correctly utilize a rotation with Shadow Strike and ITC.
Wicked Reminder PvE skill. Useful against bosses.
Smoke Bomb Use this against perma-stealth TRs when you locate them to get them out of stealth for awhile. You can also use this next to a DC to temporarily stop the heals. Mostly for trolling around, though.

Bloodbath Bloodbath is an excellent survival skill. This has saved me so many times when I’m holding points. If there’s multiple enemies on you at once, use Bloodbath to buy yourself a few more seconds of life, time for teammates to arrive, cooldown times, regen, etc.
Lurker’s Assault I pretty much only use Lurkers when I want to troll around with a perma-stealth rotation and see how long I can survive.
Whirlwind of Blades After mod 3 released, I’ve done numerous 20k whirlwinds to multiple targets. It’s the new shocking.
Courage Breaker This can be useful in 1v1s (If dailies are allowed, which you should always agree upon before the fight if it’s a planned 1v1).
Shocking Execution Excellent last resort skill. I don’t like to spam shocking execution every time my AP is full. I mainly use this if A) I’m fighting someone with low HP and I’m about to die, B) I’m fighting a tank cleric who is almost dead, C) I’m fighting a sentinel GWF who is almost dead, or D) I kill someone, their soulforged procs and it annoys me =P

*Three extra Heroic Feats due to Human character.

Basically I go for as much DPS as possible.

Sharandar: 250 Power, 250 Deflect, 700 HP, chance to heal for 400 HP when struck, 10% faster stamina gain in combat.
Dread Ring: 125 Power & 125 Movement, 250 Regen, 250 ArP, chance to heal 1000 HP over time when taking damage & gain 250 Defense for 10s, gain stacks of Madness: 50 stacks gives 600 Power, 300 Lifesteal, and 300 Regen.
Icewind Dale: 250 AoE Resist, 250 Stamina Gain.
PvP: 125 Power & 125 Crit when flagged for pvp, gain 100 Power for each player that strikes you: up to 500 lasts 8s.

Hopefully some of this is helpful for TRs in PvP. Props to you if you read it all; I know it was a lot, but I had a lot of information to share. Feel free to comment or ask questions about anything here. See you in PvP!

your build is not good enough. i met you once in pvp and i defeated you easily… maybe because of your duelist’s flurry (which i think you use), which is easy to evade.
I am TR as well and I figured out that these feats you use are the best for pvE/pvP as well.
One note. if u start using D’sF it can be evaded, so max of 2-3 hits(in flurry) which is not much of a dps.
Gloaming Cut >> this is a good damage skill because of it’s ratio of hit and damage

Very well written and explained. Very good build. I see much similarity between this and other dps TR builds. I am playing a very similar TR build right now and I can agree with much of what you have to say.

    Very Good!!
By the way, DFs is very good t otrick on PVE, in PVP w experienced players.. sometimes dont work.. but overall DFs and glommng cut its a good comb for PVE and PVP.. i use both. one for PVP GC ando other for PVE DF.

Thanks for your colaboration.. your build and your knowleadge are great!

I WANT IMPOSSIBLE TO CATH back! ! hehehe

Thanks Hyenas, for the time and energy you put into doing the build there.
After spending hours going back and forth, I have decided to put my trust in you. 🙂

I rolled a new baby TR at about Midnight on the 1st, and I am level 39 at this time. So, I could not get but 5pts in Executioner, and the 5pts in the other but, I will level fast (continue to) and be back to get the rest of the insights/info.

Then likely stop in and thank you if it proves to shine.
(PS. I hope it shines…. i killed off my lvl60 CW to roll TR. =D So far I like it more than I liked my GWF (Ender) at this stage. So I am hopeful.)
