After a few months of module 16 being live and seeing nobody plays Whisperknife, and there are no guides for it here I decided to make one because I feel like the path is perfectly fine and actually very fun to play.

When module 16 went live i had over 300 respec tokens on my Rogue, I tried every combination of Feats Several times for Whisperknife and this is what I ended up deciding worked best for the way I play this class , I have 1 Assassin Loadout, which I don’t use and don’t even know the feats on.

1. Last Moments: You deal up to 10% more damage as your opponents health bar diminishes, this bonus is doubled while stealthed.

2.Hidden Attacks: At-wills drain 10% of your stamina per hit not 15% (you should NEVER use at-wills during stealth, you use stealth to start Shadow of Demise and deal Maximum Damage doing so) and your stealth drains 50% slower (this is part of what makes whisperknife so fun, the double stealth duration, you can really position and take your time to execute encounters during stealth with this!)

3.One with the Shadows: every 20 seconds your next encounter power will refill 1/2 of your stealth meter and give you a 5% damage buff for 10 seconds.

4.Shadow of Demise: While in stealth your encounter powers add Shadow of Demise to the target, which lasts 5 seconds and upon expiration will deal 30% of the damage dealt to the effected target again.

5.Ambusher’s Haste: you deal up to 20% more damage based on how full your stealth meter is. (maximum damage at full stealth)

<Personal Powers>

Skillful Infiltrator and Advantageous Position

Q=Shadow Strike

E=Vengeance’s Pursuit

R=Lashing Blade

1=Hateful Knives

2=Whirlwind of Blades

At-Wills are Sly Flourish and Shuriken Toss

Stealth, then aim at the toughest enemy and throw Shadow Strike immediately followed by Vengeance’s Pursuit 2x, and then if there are more then 1 enemy, use lashing blade on whatever other enemy is nearby as Shadow of Demise will kill the first target, Dodge roll out of the way and use shuriken toss until your Stealth is back and powers are all off cooldown, then repeat the rotation above.

One nice trick is that Vengeance’s Pursuit is a power with a follow up and when the initial hit kills the enemy or if you hit them with something else and kill them the power resets, so you can go into stealth and then take out targets one at a time with it because you have Combat Advantage and also the initial hit does not drain any stealth, it will have no cooldown as long as you do not do the follow up attack, its tough to master but very fun to do.

some people do not like Vengeance’s Pursuit…for them I recommend Shadowy Dissapearance.

Soul Sight—>Stealth–> Shadow Strike—> Vengeance’s Pursuit 2x –> Lashing Blade–> Hateful Knives (if you got a daily up!) then this is the only time I use Sly Flourish and I use it to fill in the Remainder of my Shadow of Demise while I still Have Combat Advantage from Advantageous Position.

then dodge roll away from melee range and go back to Shuriken Toss as you wait for Encounters to Recharge.

Q= Blade Flurry

E= Blitz

R= Shadowy Dissapearance

1= Hateful Knives

2= Whirlwind of Blades

Stealth –> Shadowy right in the middle of the pack of enemies —> Blade Flurry x2 —> Blitz —> dodge roll away and use Shuriken toss and continue Dodging if needed, if Encounters come off cooldown, repeat the rotation above, or use your own discretion.

Whirlwind of Blades has some potential use for trash, but as trash dies so fast I feel it’s a waste of a Daily, but if you have to use it then do it at the start of the fight, stealth then Whirlwind and hope it clears the room, if not use your aoe rotation πŸ˜‰

^ this works best for AOE, but mostly I don’t bother changing powers up and will just use the Single-Target Powers selection for an entire dungeon.

I use the Owlbear Cub as summoned Companion and the rest are just for Armor penetration and Combat Advantage as this is not my main character so I do not spend much on her.

Companion Power is Potent Precision, when you attack there is a chance to gain 5% Critical Severity for 15 seconds (seems to stay active nearly 100% in combat)

2 Choke Chain of the Companion

1 Pearl Ring of the Companion

6 Empowered Runestones

<Insignia Bonuses>

Gladiator’s Guile and then any Defensive ones that work for you, I use Barbarians Delight and Revelry as well as Victim’s Preservation and Champions Struggle.

<Ability Scores>

DEX for Movement Speed and Critical Severity and STR for Physical Damage and Stamina Gain.

She doesn’t have many as you can see, I will eventually take all the Power and HP boons , Movement Speed (Tier 2) and Companion Influence (Tier 3), Action Point gain and Critical Severity (Tier 4) and for the remaining boons I will choose Combat Advantage and Armor Penetration, Blood Lust 3/3 for Master Boon.

    Awesome. First ever whiperknife guide I also have years of retraining tokens. Going to try it out. I will have to go through your equipment. I have WAY too much combat advantage… Too much of everything but power. Combat advantage is over 100k though.

      you want over 100k CA because of the enemies Awareness, for most content 100k is the cap but for Lair of the Mad Mage it’s 116k, and for the new trial its going to be like 126k…….the rogue has CA from their mechanics, and when it’s capped this means 100% more damage, Whisperknife also has Advantageous Position, you retain CA for 6 seconds after leaving stealth, the full time of Shadow of Demise. and this is nearly long enough to stealth again and regain CA.

    Excellent, I liked my WK. It’s not the same now as so may feats got nerfed and mangled, but I’ll try this one out.

    # hear that WK is better for AoE and Assassin better for Single Target. How do you feel about that?

    • August 4, 2019 at 9:56 pm

      i feel like whisperknife really shines on single target, as far as compared to assassin I couldn’t really say for certain, but my opinion is if you are focused and using all the feats of your build and the mechanics of your class there isn’t much difference between the paths or the classes…..I rarely use the aoe powers, I think of her as like a Ninja, taking out targets 1 at a time….undetected. shadow of demise can get some high numbers….she is only ~19k and I’ve seen over 1 Million. I like to have a wizard or ranger to do the AOE and nija takes care of the big guys πŸ˜‰

      EDIT: well sadly after quite a bit more time playing its clear WK is better for AOE and lacks heavily in ST.

        What artifacts do you use? You mention Soul Sight Crystal for Boss fights, and I assume Shard of Orcus’ Wand as you have the neck and belt. And I think I see Lantern of Revelation but can’t make out the other one!

        Any general tips for stats you go for on the “filler” artifacts? The newer mod 16/17 items have like double the stats of the older ones.

          same as any class…..ideally you have 2-3 “main”slot artifacts, which when not in use go in your inventory—> Soul Sight (single target) and then decanter of atropal essence or even wheel of elements (take fire) for AOE. then you have your set artifact which for dps is shard of orcus wand (until a better set then this mod 8 set comes out) for your other 2 you want as much power as possible as you can cap all your other stats with gear–> staff of flowers, trobriands ring, or blast scepter

    According to my experience, for mobs Assassin is way better than WK. I would play WK only on boss fights.
    Using Shadow Strike, Vengeance’s Pursuit, Lashing Blade in dungeon clearing, skyrmishes or mobs is useless for me because they are too slow and clumsy for my playstyle and everything is killed by other classes before you can hit them properly. The other powers like smoke bomb and blade flurry are much more effective on Assassin.

      All well and good, I mostly run CN or FBI, and the trash fights often have a few tougher enemies in them (nalfeshnee,balgura, skalds,giants etc.) so i focus on them, when it’s just little skeletons or baby trolls shuriken toss wipes them out.
